❄️ Winter Program
Winter Outdoor Activities
for Kids in Eastern Ontario
Here's what most people get wrong about winter: they think it's the off-season for outdoor learning.
They're wrong. Winter is when the real magic happens. 🌲❄️
At Outdoor Kids, winter is our peak season. The snow reveals animal tracks like nothing else. Fire-building in cold weather teaches real survival skills. And there's something about being outside in winter that builds confidence in kids like nothing else can.

Snow Tracking & Animal Identification
Fresh snow is a tracker's dream. Every animal that moves leaves a story. Kids learn to read tracks, understand animal behavior, and become wilderness detectives.
Winter Fire-Building & Safety
Building a fire when it's -20°C is a completely different skill. We teach kids to find dry wood, manage moisture, and build fires that actually keep you warm.
Snow Shelter Construction
Snow caves, quinzees, windbreaks. Kids learn to build shelter in winter conditions. It's problem-solving at its finest.
Winter Gear & Layering
What do you actually need to stay warm and dry in winter? We teach kids (and parents!) the real deal: layers, insulation, moisture management.
Winter Navigation
Compasses, maps, landmarks. Winter landscapes look different, but navigation skills are just as important — maybe more so.
Why Winter is the Best-Kept Secret
Almost nobody does outdoor programs in winter. That means:
Zero crowds — You have the forest to yourself
Peak animal activity — Tracking is incredible
Real skill-building — Winter teaches resilience
Incredible memories — Kids never forget winter adventures
Almost zero competition — We're one of the only programs doing this in Eastern Ontario
If you want your kids to stand out, winter is where it happens. 🎯

FAQ: Winter Outdoor Activities
Isn't winter too cold for kids?
Nope. With proper layers and gear, kids are incredibly resilient. We teach you exactly what to wear and how to stay warm. Plus, kids generate heat when they're active and engaged.
What age can kids do winter activities?
Kids ages 6–12 are our focus, but younger siblings and older teens are welcome. Everything is family-inclusive.
Do we need expensive winter gear?
Not to start. Our gear rental library (launching May) has everything you need. Borrow snowshoes, sleeping bags, winter coats — whatever you need for $3–$15 per weekend.
What if my kids have never done winter camping?
Perfect. That's who we're here for. We teach everything from scratch. No experience needed.
Is winter camping safe?
Absolutely. We're certified in outdoor first aid. We teach safety protocols. We start with day trips and build from there.
